Solar panel cost in Ontario, by package

KAJK's introductory solar-only packages cost $20,000 for 5 kW up to $35,000 for 20 kW, before tax. Add 13% HST and take off the estimated $5,000 Home Renovation Savings rebate, and you pay $17,600 to $34,550. Add a battery and the rebate can reach $10,000. Choose by your yearly electricity use; we call, visit your home and confirm the price.

Match your solar to the power you use.

Pick your yearly electricity use, then choose solar only or add battery backup for when the grid goes down. Prices are introductory: after you choose, our team calls you, visits your home and finalizes the right package and price.

Step 1How much electricity does your home use in a year?
kWh a month

A typical Ontario home uses about 8,400 kWh a year (Ontario Energy Board, 2025-10-17). Your last 12 months of bills show your own.

Step 2Add battery backup?

A bigger battery keeps more of your home running for longer during an outage. Rebates of up to $10,000 may apply.

What is in each solar package

Each package is a complete rooftop system for one home, named by its kilowatts (kW) of panels. KAJK has designed and installed solar panels in Ottawa since 2016, and works from Alfred to Pickering.

Production is our Ottawa estimate of 1,150 kWh a year for each kW. Natural Resources Canada gives Ottawa 1,200 kWh per kW for panels facing south at latitude tilt and 977 for panels laid flat (read 2026-10-01), so your roof's direction, tilt and shade set where yours lands.

  • About two high-efficiency panels per kW: 10 on the 5 kW package, 40 on the 20 kW.
  • Racking and professional installation.
  • The design, from the cable and equipment power-loss calculation and the model of your roof to the as-built drawings.
  • Your permits, the scheduling and the project management.
  • With a battery: a 10, 20, 30 or 40 kWh home battery, and automatic backup power in an outage.

How the price after rebate is worked out

Every price here is KAJK's introductory price, before tax. You pay that price plus Ontario's 13% HST, and the rebate is paid to you once the program approves the claim after the install, so it comes off the total with tax.

The estimated rebate comes from Ontario's Home Renovation Savings Program, run by Enbridge Gas and the IESO: $1,000 per kW of solar up to $5,000, and $300 per kWh of battery up to $5,000, each up to half of that part's cost before tax (homerenovationsavings.ca, read 2026-11-05).

Every package is 5 kW or more, so the solar part earns the full $5,000. The battery part depends on its size:

No battery
Solar rebate $5,000. Total rebate $5,000.
10 kWh battery
Battery rebate $3,000 (10 × $300). Total rebate $8,000.
20 kWh battery
Battery rebate $5,000, the cap (20 × $300 would be $6,000). Total rebate $10,000.
30 or 40 kWh battery
Battery rebate $5,000, the cap. Total rebate $10,000.

A worked example: the 10 kW package with a 20 kWh battery is $39,118 before tax. HST adds $5,085, for $44,203. Take off $5,000 for the solar and $5,000 for the battery, and your price after rebate is $34,203, tax included.

What else moves a quote, from the roof and the electrical panel to the connection, is in our guide to solar panel cost in Ottawa.

Why the packages are sized to the power you use

The rebate pays for load displacement systems: the panels power your home as they generate, and a battery keeps the extra for the evening and for outages. So each package is matched to your yearly use, and the solar rebate in Ontario does the rest.

A rebated system stays on load displacement and never signs a net metering agreement with your local distribution company (Participant Agreement, October 2025). If you would rather bank summer credit, net metering in Ontario explains how the credit works, and the site visit compares the two for your home.

  • The panels go on the roof of your home, or of a permanent existing structure on the same meter. A ground mount takes net metering instead.
  • It is the home's first solar and battery system.
  • Nothing is bought or installed before the program's written pre-approval.
  • A licensed electrical contractor designs and installs it, within 12 months of pre-approval.

What happens after you choose a package

  1. We call you

Our team calls to understand your home, your last 12 months of bills and what you want the system to do.

  2. We visit your home

A KAJK representative reviews your roof's direction, tilt and shade and your electrical panel, and confirms the rebate eligibility. The visit is free, with no obligation.

  3. We finalize your package and price

You see the concept design, the costs and the equipment we would use before anything is ordered.

  4. The rebate application goes in

Your contractor files the pre-installation application with a quote dated within 60 days, and the claim within 30 days of the install. Applying for the rebate walks through both forms.

  5. We build it

Design, procurement and construction follow KAJK's five steps, then operation and maintenance once your system is running.

Add a battery or an EV charger

Choose the battery with your panels. The Home Renovation Savings battery rebate pays only when the battery goes in with a new solar system, and it reaches its $5,000 cap at about 16.7 kWh. Our page on solar battery storage covers how a home battery is sized and what it keeps running.

Planning an electric car? A Level 2 EV charger installation can be planned around the same electrical panel and your solar at the site visit.

“Khaled and his crew did an outstanding job with our solar install. Every step of the process was thoroughly explained and the installation was seamless”

Questions we get asked

How much do solar panels cost for a 2,000 square foot house?

KAJK prices by electricity use, not floor area. The Ontario Energy Board's typical household uses 700 kWh a month, about 8,400 kWh a year (2025-10-17), which points to the 10 kW package, the first size that covers it: $25,000 before tax, or $23,250 after the estimated rebate with 13% HST included. Your own last 12 months of bills give the number for your home.

Is the government paying for solar panels in Ontario?

Ontario is, through the Home Renovation Savings Program: up to $5,000 for new rooftop solar and up to $5,000 for a battery installed with it (Enbridge Gas and IESO, read 2026-11-05). The federal Greener Homes Grant has closed. Our guide to Ontario solar rebates lists every program open today.

Are solar panels worth it in Ontario?

Yes, for a home that uses its own power: each kW of panels makes about 1,150 kWh a year in Ottawa by our estimate, and the rebate takes up to $10,000 off a package. Is solar worth it in Ontario covers Ottawa's yield, the rebate or net metering, the City loan and how long panels last.

What is the difference between load displacement and net metering?

With load displacement, your home uses the solar power as it is made and a battery stores the extra; that is the system the Home Renovation Savings rebate pays for. With net metering, power you send to the grid becomes a bill credit that carries for up to 12 months (Ontario Energy Board), and the system takes no Home Renovation Savings rebate.

How long does it take to install a solar package?

The rebate path sets the pace. Your contractor files the pre-installation application, nothing is bought until the program and your local distribution company approve it, and the system is finished within 12 months of pre-approval. The claim goes in within 30 days of the install. Your site visit gives you the dates for your home.

What does the site visit check?

Your roof's direction, tilt and shade, which set how much each kW makes; the roof itself and your electrical panel; your last 12 months of bills; and whether your home meets the rebate rules. Then we finalize your package and price. The visit is free, with no obligation.

Can I get a battery with the 20 kW package?

Yes. Batteries for the 20 kW package are priced at the site visit, which is why it shows Call for price. Choose the package and request a call back, or call (613) 869-8254.

Should I add the battery now or later?

Now, if you want the battery rebate. The Home Renovation Savings battery rebate, up to $5,000, pays only when the battery is installed with a new solar system. A battery added later can still join a net-metered system under Ontario's net metering rules.

The fine print

Estimated yearly production in Ottawa, about 1,150 kWh per kW of solar. Actual output depends on roof direction, tilt and shading. Introductory prices are before tax; the price after rebate adds 13% HST and then takes off the estimated rebate, which is paid after the install.

Estimated rebate based on Ontario's Home Renovation Savings Program: $1,000 per kW of solar (up to 5 kW) plus $300 per kWh of battery storage (up to $5,000), each up to half of that part's cost before tax, for load-displacement systems only (not net metering). Rebate eligibility and amounts are set by the program and confirmed during your site visit.

Packages, equipment and prices shown are introductory; the final system and price are confirmed after a site visit.
