From solar builds to full energy systems: KAJK's timeline
The founding idea, in KAJK's words, was simple: “how can we help our city become a city of the future. That's to strive to have a better quality of life for generations to come. In our view, our path forward was clear.”
2016: phase 1
In KAJK's words, the phase 1 mission was “to focus on constructing the most affordable Renewable/Sustainable Energy Solutions & Energy management systems with the most advanced available technologies and do it in the best way where we can provide our city tenants with ways to save money on their electrical consumption side while help the city advance to the future in a Energy efficient manner.”
2019: phase 2, green retrofits
Phase 2 was “to expand our offering to the city residents by focusing on green retrofits. Taking old homes and buildings to the 21st century.” KAJK started offering green retrofit solutions, completed its first consultation on a green retrofit, and by its own count has provided dozens of consultations since.
2022: full energy management
KAJK began providing what it calls “full eco system energy management solutions”: a renewable source combined with battery storage and heating and cooling, monitored by a central energy management system.
Lose less, use less, make more: the three principles
Phase 2 of KAJK's mission takes older homes and buildings into the 21st century through construction built on three energy-management principles, quoted here from its site. A green retrofit applies them across the building envelope, electrical, mechanical and civil work.
- Conservation
- “simply LOSE as little energy as you can”. On a retrofit this starts with the envelope: roof, walls, windows, doors and foundation.
- Utilization
- “simply USE as little energy as you can”. An efficient building needs less to run.
- Generation
- “simply MAKE as much energy as you can”. Solar and other renewable sources supply what is left.
